Ladismith is a town and agricultural centre in the western Klein Karoo region of South Africa’s Western Cape province. In 1852 the farm Elandsvlei was set aside for the town, and it became a municipality in 1862.

It was named after Lady Juana María Smith

Two towns were named after her, and to recognize them the one in KwaZulu-Natal is spelled Ladysmith, while the one in the little Karoo of the Western Cape is spelled Ladismith.

  The town is loaded with an engineering style – Neo Gothic, Georgian, Victorian, Regency and Rural (Karoo) styles.

The town of Ladismith lies at the root of the Klein Swartberg Mountain Range in the Klein Karoo. It is effectively open from any of the towns and urban communities around

There is a noticeable mountain top above Ladismith called Towerkop. This is the beautiful appearance of the mountain – the top is part in two.

One of the residents of the town (Stanley de Wit) chose to include an additional star in the system so he went most of the way up the Elandsberg Mountain and raised a ‘star’. It consists of a bike light and dynamo and is controlled by a water stream.

There are a lot of wide detours available from the town on the off chance that you go to the east or west.
