Ermelo girls shine in Secunda

Each year the Lake Umuzi Springfest, which is held during the school holiday in October, host several events during the week.  One of the highlights of the Springfest is the Miss Matric competition held by the Basement Theatre at Lake Umuzi where matric girls from the region can enter with their matric farewell dresses for the title of Miss Matric and lots of prizes.  Last year the competition was won by Bianca Smit, who matriculated at Ligbron Academy of Technology in 2015, with her dress designed by Thomas Webb from Ermelo. .

This year Bianca, once again in a Thomas Webb creation, was overjoyed to pass the crown to Zamile Nkabinde, also from Ligbron.  The big surprise in this year’s contest was that all the prizes were won by girls from Ermelo.  The First Princess is Corli van den Berg from Hoërskool Ermelo and the Second Princess title went to Michané Els, also from Ligbron.  Michané’s dress was also designed by Thomas Webb.
According to Zamile, “I wanted to show off my dress once more since it was beautiful.  I was also doing it for fun; I like taking part in things that make me feel good.”  Her dress was designed by Gert Johan Coetzee in Sandton who according to her worked his magic.  “I couldn’t believe the title was mine.  The competition was very high so it’s still a shock to me that I won.
This really means a lot to me and boosts my ego.  I’m now determined that I can do anything,” Zamile told the Ermelo Insight.  She is going to study Radiography next year at the University of Johannesburg.  “My plan is to reach all the goals I’ve set, to make my parents proud and the best way to do that is by being successful and being able to spoil them like they spoil me.  I plan on doing modelling as a part-time hobby.  Do not let anyone tell you different – you are not what people think of you, you are who you believe you are deep down inside, don’t change for no one.  If you can’t be better than your competition just dress better, smile with no worries and kill them with success.  I’d love to thank my family for being so supportive and always being there pushing me to be the young lady that I am, especially my mom, Duduzile.  I love my mom!  Matric Farewell only comes once in your lifetime, go all out, I know I did!” Zamile concluded.
Elmé graced the contestants and audience during this event with her great singing voice.  Rolin Prinsloo, the organiser of this glamorous event, would like to thank the sponsors who made it possible: The Bulletin (main sponsor), Lake Umuzi, Split Endz, Marlane Charles Make-up Artistry, Love and Lace, Loggies van Loggenberg and Retha Rogers, Dadiva, Alla Modelling and Beauty Company, Lilatography, Nadia Ludwig Make-up artistry, Exquisite Beauty, Placecol Skin Care Clinic Secunda, Hair Excellence, Ralph Jacob Jewellery and Mazi Me.
