The community of Ermelo was in shock since Monday morning, 30 May after hearing about the brutal attack on Goolam Docrat (43) which left him with severe burn wounds next to the road on the N17 just past the Ermelo toll gate.
According to friends of the family, Goolam left his home in Pet Street early Monday morning to attend the Mosque in Cassim Park at 06:00 for early Morning Prayer.  He didn’t show up at the Mosque and shortly after, at 06:30 the local police received a call claiming that a man was left on the N17 with serious burn wounds.  They dispatched the emergency services who found Goolam near his white Nissan NP400 in a critical condition and rushed him to the Provincial Hospital in Ermelo.  The keys of his vehicle was still in the ignition.  It seemed like he was doused in fuel and set alight next to the road and left to die.  Goolam was treated at the hospital but sadly passed away during the night.  His funeral was attended by family and friends at 10:00 on Tuesday.
According to Captain Carla Prinsloo, spokesperson of the local police, the police is investigating murder and any person with information is requested to contact Constable ML Mkwanazi at 017 819 2321 or 082 373 8389.
