The trio was sentenced by the Bloemhof Regional Court, after being convicted for the rape of an 18-year-old girl.
North West Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane welcomed the sentencing of Lentikile Moepeng, Pule Modise and Patrick Thabiso Molaetsi, after they were all condemned to 20 years in prison for rape.
The trio was sentenced by the Bloemhof Regional Court last week, after being convicted for the rape of an 18-year-old girl.
On Sunday, 05 January 2014, the accused raped the victim while she was walking from a local tavern to her home in Boitumelong township near Bloemhof. The court heard that the accused approached the victim armed with knobkerries, dragged her to a nearby sport ground where they gang raped her inside the toilets.
Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane commended investigating teams involved in this case. She said that this would send a clear message that the full might of the law will deal with those who commit crime.
